Encircled in Time”
I use photography as a means to document the world around me. I make pictures that call attention to the everyday moments that can go unseen. This investigation of the overlooked helps me engage more deeply with where I fit in the world today. My goal is to make photographs that draw viewers into the image causing them to become absorbed in it. The focus on details keeps us in the present; it stops us from agonizing about the future or regretting the past. My love of games and puzzles led me to place fun details in the photograph for exploring and discovering various multiples of individuals at different times within the image.
My choice of subject comes from my interest in seeing the past, present, and future unfold within the same space and time. The idea that a photograph captures a single moment is interrupted here. In the photograph called “Encircled in Time” I captured multiple images of a particular location over time and then later combined them into one grand image. The setting is of a familiar place, the mall at Christmas time, a place we all frequently visit. I am inspired by the moments we lose to memory and my hope is to capture the trivial seemingly insignificant moments and save them for later. In some ways these photos reference memories of home and family and bring back the joy of childhood.
